“I thought the report was brilliant, it was really clear. I really liked the benchmarking that you did and the breakdown of boys and girls in different groups… so I was able to identify Year 10 boys that are pupil premium students, we’ve got a real problem with this.” Personal, Social & Health Education Lead, School

“I hope it will open up more conversations with our students, and us knowing what areas they need support on, and then being able to target these areas.” Assistant Headteacher, Academy School

How will I provide the data?
We will provide each school with a unique link to upload their student data. We ask schools to upload a spreadsheet with students name, class, date of birth and postcode. This allows us to create an individual code for each student so changes in their responses can be tracked over time. This data also allows us to potentially link SW-SHRN survey data with other data sets in the future, such as the National Pupil Database.
When will you visit school?
A teacher will need to be present at the same time as the researcher in case of behaviour management needs or additional support. One of our researchers will attend the session, explain the process to the students and answer any questions that arise. All of our researchers are fully DBS checked. There will be no follow up for individual students, so we recommend that they are able to ask a trusted member of staff for support if any of the questions trigger an emotional response.

We request that you nominate a member of staff to be the ‘SW-SHRN School Co-ordinator’, who will have authority to liaise with the SW-SHRN team and support co-ordination of the data collection. This person will also need an hour to complete the school environment questionnaire and participate in a short interview about the network and how to make it most useful to schools.
Each school will be asked to sign a research agreement which details what is required of the research team and what is required of the participating school.
